biography
Galleries in New York, San Francisco, Boston and Minneapolis have exhibited my work. El Museo del Barrio, Museum of Fine Arts of Florida, San Diego Art Institute, Holter Museum Of Art and the Delaware Center of Contemporary Arts exhibited my self-portraits during 2000. I won the Juror’s prize at the Women in the Visual Arts Exhibit and am currently participating in the AIM program of the Bronx Museum, which will conclude in an exhibit.
This year I was a speaker at the Women's Caucus for the Arts Conference, in Chicago. I will also be exhibiting new work in New York, Boston, Michigan, Colombia, Uruguay; and will have a solo exhibit at The Project Room in New York and another one in Colombia
artist’s statement
These self-portraits explore the relationship between the private and the public identity of the female body. The images examine the implications of finding a common ground where the dichotomy of being seen, the male gaze, and seeing oneself might meet. I explore the visual identities of gender and sexuality, by analyzing the body as a construct of the rules of beauty and polite conduct.
